Maximising academic potential

Every child should have the chance to achieve to the best of their abilities, and the Archer Academy will encourage all our pupils to pursue academic excellence.

Central to this is ensuring that all pupils have strong literacy and numeracy skills, as these underpin levels of achievement in every subject. We have therefore chosen to specialise in English and Maths and will devote extra time to these core subjects, particularly in Key Stage 3.

Our teachers will be expected to set high standards, have great expectations, and challenge each and every pupil to fulfil their individual potential. So, as well as offering specific provision for pupils with identified learning requirements, we will also have in place a series of strategies which will make this possible.

For example, early in their first year, each pupil will be given an individual learning plan, which will set ambitious measurable targets for them to work towards. We will monitor these plans regularly and work with our pupils and their parents to keep their performance on track.

We will also use the flexibility of our academy status to vary the size of our classes. Each of our six tutor groups will contain 25 pupils, and, where required, we will provide extra support for pupils by teaching in smaller groups.

Throughout their time at the school, we will make sure that our pupils understand the link between hard work and achievement, and will put in place a system of recognition and rewards that will inspire our pupils to settle for nothing less than their best.
