What qualities will your headteacher bring to the school? When we began our recruitment process, we were looking for an inspirational, experienced individual, who is ambitious for every pupil. It had to be someone who felt passionate about our vision and excited by the prospect of creating an exceptional school for our community. They needed to be an outstanding strategic leader with a proven track record of leading curriculum innovation, creating stimulating learning environments and helping their pupils reach high academic standards. And we felt it was important to have an excellent communicator, with the ability to inspire, motivate and challenge their pupils, parents, staff and governors.
We knew we were asking a huge amount; but in Mick Quigley, we have all of these qualities and more besides. Mick is an outstanding headteacher and inspirational leader who knows from experience what makes a school a success. He is driven by the desire to provide his pupils with an exceptional, rounded education; and he is both committed to our vision for the Archer Academy and full of ideas about how to bring it to life.
We are absolutely delighted that he has accepted the job as our headteacher.
Will you be able to attract great teaching staff to your school? As our headteacher recruitment process showed, the fact that we're a brand new school is no barrier to people applying. In fact, we received many more applications than we were expecting, and were delighted with the calibre of the candidates.
The Archer Academy offers its inaugural team a hugely exciting challenge – to create a brand-new school, with the backing of its community, and help make it a success; to be part of a vibrant new teaching team with high expectations and great enthusiasm; to nurture the progress of its pupils and allow them to help shape the school.
It's a one-off opportunity which we're sure the right kind of people will relish. If you're interested in joining our team, please let us know and we'll email you when we're next recruiting.
Free schools aren't required to employ qualified teachers – will you?We feel strongly that the success of our school lies in the hands of our teachers, so we are committed to recruiting a fully qualified team (to PGCE level or equivalent). We are also committed to adopting the national terms and conditions for teachers, even thought we are not required to do so.
We will expect our teachers to enthuse and inform our pupils in equal measure, and will ensure that they are given the time and training they need to maintain outstanding levels of performance.
Furthermore, we are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and will expect every member of our team to respect this commitment. All staff will be subject to an enhanced CRB check.
